When young 18-year Olds enter Medicine: A call for Mental health Support for MBBS freshers

This article explores the unique challenges faced by young first year medical students in India, many of whom are just 17-18 years old. Thrust into an intense academic environment immediately after school, these young minds must adjust to the demanding curriculum, unfamiliar surroundings and emotional separation from home, all the while striving to meet high expectations. With minimal transition support and limited exposure to independent living, this medical College experience can feel overwhelming. This article strives for rethinking of how we can support these young entrants, calling for counselling services. curriculum restructuring and compassionate academic environment to help the students build resilience.
